As a great fan of Rex Stout's great detective, Nero Wolfe I was wondering if any of the early movies based on the charactor was available as PD. I was particularly interested in 'Meet Nero Wolfe' 1936 or 'The League of Frightened Gentlemen' 1937

Funny you should bring those up because a couple weeks ago I was going to look up "Meet Nero Wolfe" and check it for a notice. I found my copy and unfortunately it has a valid notice.

That's a shame. I'll have to see if I can order a copy from somewhere.

Both movies were properly registered and renewed. The only way either would be PD is if they lacked or otherwise had an invalid notice.

I've heard that they weren't particularly memorable and that Stout hated them, bit it's really a shame that I can't find copies of either of these films... not even for sale. :-(

I too heard that Stout hated both movies and that Lionel Stander was terrible in his role of Archie Goodwin but it would have been nice to see for myself just how bad he was. Thanks for going to the trouble of looking into it for me. I really appreciate it.
